EV Charger Grant London: OZEV Funding Guide 2026

If you have recently bought or ordered an electric vehicle, you could be eligible for a government grant worth up to £350 towards the cost of a home charge point. The OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant makes home charging significantly more affordable — and as an approved installer, Olectrics Ltd can handle the entire process for you.

What Is the OZEV EV Charger Grant?

The OZEV Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (previously known as the OLEV grant or EVHS) provides a subsidy of up to £350 — or 75% of the total installation cost, whichever is lower — towards the cost of installing a home EV charge point.

The grant is administered by OZEV and claimed by the installer on your behalf. You do not need to apply separately — we handle the paperwork as part of the installation.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the OZEV grant, you must meet all of the following criteria:

Vehicle requirements:

  • You own, lease, or have ordered an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle
  • The vehicle must be on the OZEV approved vehicle list (most modern EVs and PHEVs qualify)

Property requirements:

  • You must live in a flat or rented accommodation (homeowners in houses are no longer eligible for the standard grant — see below)
  • You must have dedicated off-street parking

Installer requirements:

  • The charge point must be installed by an OZEV-approved installer
  • The charge point itself must be on the OZEV approved product list

What About Homeowners in Houses?

Since April 2022, the grant for homeowners in houses was replaced by a separate scheme. If you own a house with a driveway, you are no longer eligible for the standard OZEV grant — but you can still benefit from the 0% VAT rate on EV charger installations, which applies to all residential properties.

For flat owners and renters, the grant remains available and is well worth claiming.

How Much Can You Save?

Here is a realistic cost breakdown for a typical home EV charger installation in London:

ItemCost
7kW smart charge point (e.g. Ohme, Zappi, Easee)£600–£900
Installation labour (2–4 hours)£200–£400
Total before grant£800–£1,300
OZEV grant (up to £350)-£350
Total after grant£450–£950

Prices vary depending on the charge point model, the complexity of the installation, and whether any additional electrical work is needed (such as a consumer unit upgrade).

What Type of Charge Point Should You Choose?

For home use, a 7kW single-phase charge point is the most common and cost-effective option. It will charge most EVs from empty to full overnight.

Popular models we install include:

  • Ohme Home Pro — smart scheduling, integrates with energy tariffs like Octopus Go
  • Zappi — ideal if you have or plan to install solar panels (can charge from excess solar)
  • Easee One — compact, stylish, and easy to use
  • Andersen A2 — premium option with a range of finishes to suit your property

The Installation Process

Here is what to expect when Olectrics Ltd installs your home EV charger:

1. Free Survey

We assess your property, check your consumer unit capacity, and confirm the best location for the charge point. We will also confirm your OZEV eligibility at this stage.

2. Quote and Grant Application

We provide a fixed-price quote and handle the OZEV grant application on your behalf.

3. Installation Day

Most installations take 2–4 hours. We install the charge point, run the cable to your consumer unit, and commission the unit.

4. Testing and Handover

We test the installation, register the charge point with the manufacturer, and walk you through how to use it — including setting up smart charging schedules.

5. Certification

You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate for the work, which is important for your home insurance and any future property sale.

Smart Charging and Off-Peak Tariffs

One of the biggest advantages of a home charge point over a standard three-pin plug is the ability to schedule charging for off-peak hours. If you are on a time-of-use tariff such as Octopus Go or OVO Drive Anytime, you can charge your car for as little as 7–8p per kWh overnight — compared to 24–30p during peak hours.

A smart charge point pays for itself quickly when combined with the right energy tariff.
